Prof. Dr. Soepomo (January 22nd 1903 - September 12th 1958) is well known as one of the authors of the 1945 constitution together with Muhammad Yamin and Soekarno. He is also the one who proposed the idea of integralism in Indonesia. As a Javanese noble family, he had an opportunity to pursue his studies in ELS (European Lagere School) in Boyolali (1917), MULO (Meer Uitgebreid Lagere Onderwijs) in Solo (1920) and finished his higher education in Bataviasche Rechtschoogeschool in Batavia (1923).
He then became a civil servant of colonial government who held a position as a court leader in Sragen. From 1924 until 1927, Soepomo had an opportunity to pursue his study in Rijskuniversiteit Leiden, Netherland under the supervision of Cornelis van Vollenhoven, a professor of law who is well known as "the architect" of the common law of Indonesia.
His doctoral thesis entitled Reorganisate van het Agrarisch Stelsel in het Gewest Soerakarta (Reorganization of Agrarian System in Surakarta Region) does not only explore traditional agrarian system in Surakarta, but it also critically analyze colonial laws dealing with land affairs in Surakarta. Marsillam Simanjuntak in his book the Nation of Integralistic State: Its Source, Element and History in the preparation of the 1945 Constitution states that Soepomo is the founding father of fascism in Indonesia. Soepomo admired governmental system of Germany and Japan. "New Order" of Soeharto is the closest form of state based on Soepomo's idea.
